Revenue loses interest in interest … on back tax

by John Doherty on September 15, 2010

HM Revenue & Customs has lost interest …. in interest owed on back tax payments.

HMRC today decided not to charge interest on back tax owed due to the Revenue’s own miscalculation of PAYE tax codes. The 1.4m people affected owe an average of £1,428 each. Another 4.3m people are due tax refunds, due to the same series of errors.
