Twice the basic state pension needed to survive, says charity

A single person today needs an income of £14,400 a year to survive and also be part of society, according to the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. That is more than twice the basic state pension. Is it time to start squirreling away a few pounds a month for that 20-year holiday at the end of your life?
