Children born on or after 1st September 2002 are now eligible for
a £250 voucher to be invested in a Child Trust Fund that cannot
be withdrawn from until the child turns 18. We can help you find
the best place for that money and what's more you can invest it
online here.
The Child Trust Fund is essentially a long-term,
tax-efficient, savings and investment account. You can add a maximum
of £1,200 each year to the fund and the account can be moved
or changed at any time to one that may be more productive.
Child Savings Accounts
- no risk as you receive the amount invested plus the interest earned
Share-Investing Accounts - investing in shares
is more risky as value can fall as well as rise, however there is
greater potential for the investment to do well
Stakeholder
Accounts - your child's money is invested in shares in companies,
with the government putting measures in place to reduce the risk
Investment duration - for example are there restrictions about withdrawals?
Saving for children tends to be for longer term, so this usually gives
you more flexibility and choice but risk can be higher
Lump sum investment or regular monthly savings? When you invest online
with us you can choose either option although a little every month
soon adds up!
