Council House Purchase / Right to Buy Mortgages

If you would like to buy your council house then the right to buy scheme will apply to you. Essentially it is a scheme which allows council house tenants to purchase their home at a discount from the council, which is dependent on the length of your tenancy.

How is the discount calculated?

The discount proceedure differs depending on the area of the UK you live in. However in all cases it is calculated from the number of years you have been a tenant in the council house.

What are the limitations?

There is a maximum limit to the amount of discount you can receive when purchasing a council house. Also you must have been a tenant for a certain number of years before you become eligible.

Before you decide to purchase your council house it may be worth discussing the options with an independent financial adviser, such as ourselves. This way you will fully understand the financial implications involved. Enquire here >>
