What types of ethical investments are available?

Ethical investment can come in many forms - ethical Unit Trusts & OEICs, ethical investment trusts, ethical life and pension funds, ISAs and other savings schemes. It is also possible to have an ethical mortgage. The majority of funds that invest ethically are Unit Trusts or OEICs.

How do I choose an ethical fund?
Firstly you must decide which issues concern you most. If you are unsure about which social or environmental issues to focus on, you can discuss it with one of our investment advisers, who can answer any other questions you may have.

When researching ethical investments, each fund should disclose their investment policy, providing you with information on the companies in which they invest.

As well as the investment strategies of a fund you should also consider the performance to ensure that you get the most from your investment. If you are unsure about any investment you should seek the advice of an Independent Financial Adviser, such as Principle First, as we have experience in the ethical sector.

What are the risks involved with ethical investment?
As with most investments there is some degree of risk involved and this depends on the specific funds you choose. It is important to note that the value of an investment, regardless of whether it is ethical or not, can fall as well as rise.

How do I invest in an ethical fund?
You can invest ethically via a financial adviser like ourselves, whether you are interested in an ethical Unit Trust, OEIC or ISA. It is important that the fund suits your ethical values, so ensure that you read the Key Features document and the fund manager's statement.

For the less experienced investor it is always advisable to go via an authorised Independent Financial Adviser, who can help you select a fund that suits your needs and also complete all of the transactions on your behalf. You can discuss your needs with our independent investment adviser on 02871 273030

How do I find out what ethical funds are available?
You can research some ethical funds via our ethical investment research page here. When you have invested you can also monitor the value of your ethical trust on a daily basis via our client area.

If you require any further information about ethical investments or investments in general, please do not hesitate to consult our independent financial advisers. Request advice here
