Investing in environmental quality – the Allianz RCM Global Eco Trends Fund

The Allianz RCM Global Eco Trends Fund is an equity investment fund focussed on global companies active in three key sectors of ethical investment – eco-energy investment, covering alternative energy sources and water efficiency, pollution control, ensuring environmental quality through waste management and recycling, and clean water treatment technologies and supply.

The Allianz RCM Global Eco Trends Fund was launched in February 2008 and is managed by Bozena Jankowska, who joined RCM in 2000, having previously worked as Business and Environment Advisor at construction giant John Laing PLC.

Making an Allianz RCM Global Eco Trends Fund investment

The minimum lump sum investment in the Allianz RCM Global Eco Trends Fund is £500. Minimum lump sum top-ups to the fund are also £500.  ISA investments are possible, subject to a £1,000 minimum. Charges in the investment fund for lump sums are an initial 4% and an annual charge of 1.75%, or for an ISA an initial 3% and an annual 1.75%.

Holdings in the Allianz RCM Global Eco Trends Fund

As of end April 2010 the Allianz RCM Global Eco Trends Fund is focused on European (37.9%), US (22%) and international equities (19.8%), with smaller holdings in Asia/Pacific (8%), UK equities (6.2%) and Japanese equities (6.1%).

By industrial sector, the largest holdings in the Allianz RCM Global Eco Trends Fund invests in Industrials (49.5%), Oil and Gas (22.1%) and Utilities (10.8%).

The largest single holding in this investment fund is the 9.2% of funds under management invested in Vestas, the Danish manufacturer of wind turbines and wind energy systems.

The fund manager has also invested 4.2% of the investment fund in Gamesa, the Spanish wind turbines and wind farms specialist.

Other significant holdings in the investment fund include Novozymes, a producer of environmentally friendly enzyme solutions for food, waste treatment and fuel applications; Kurita Water Industries, the water treatment and wastewater purification specialist; and NALCO, the global water treatment and process improvement company.
